Mt. Heiðarfjall is located on Langanes peninsula and it's highest point is 266 m above sea level. The NATO forces built a radar station on top of the mountain in the 1950s, the operations there ended around 1970. There are history signs by the road that leads to the mountain where it´s possible to read about the life of the American soldiers who stayed on the mountain. It's possible to drive up on the mountain in a good vehicle and if you are that lucky there's no fog the view from the top is beautiful. The soldiers who stayed on the mountain called it Misty Mountain because of the frequent fog.
