Djúpilækur

The poet Kristján frá Djúpalæk was born and raised at Djúpilækur farm. It's located between Bakkafjörður and Þórshöfn and at the farm there is a monument to remember Kristján where you can sit down and enjoy the surroundings. He was one of the most known poets in Iceland, an unusual character but loved. In addition to publishing poetry books he translated poems from children's plays and wrote song lyrics. The three stones in the monument stand for "beauty, joy and peace" which are the final words in one of his poems called Mitt faðirvor .
